About FFH:
Focus For Humanity is a US opening Focus For Humanity Fellowships 2010 based non profit foundation that supports amateur and professional photographers throughout the world to focus their work on telling cultural and humanitarian stories. Through a series of grants and awards it helps these photographers to perfect their craft by funding not only fully expensed photographic assignments to work with underfunded NGOs, but also grants to help people become full-time photographers or to improve their craft by subsidizing attendance on photographic workshops and providing mentoring schemes with leading humanitarian and travel photographers.
Detail:
This is one of our two main awards – an annual fellowship of up to US$15,000 for a non full-time photographer keen to focus on photography as a career and probably within the humanitarian or cultural field, but who needs that final push or help to overcome that last barrier that is stopping them turning full-time. The fellowship is awarded by means of a competitive portfolio review and an assessment of an online application form. The lucky recipient has the choice of either undertaking their own assignment or working with one of the Advisory Council on a new assignment with an NGO
Eligibility:
* Individual photographers who are not yet presently engaged in the business of creating and selling or licensing imagery.
* Photographers can be from any country or region, although the submission must be made in English.
* The application must be submitted by the photographer through the Focus For Humanity website.
* A photographer may submit only one application per year for the Foundation Fellowship.
* Each submission may contain only one supplementary project proposal.
* Applications will not be automatically carried forward from one year to the next. However, an applicant may re-submit a project that was not awarded a grant in a previous year.
* We support the International Guild of Visual Peacemakers. and encourage photographers to familiarize themselves with the goals and objectives of the Guild. In particular, we recommend that all photographers adopt the IGVP ethical charter.

Submission Process: Applying is a simple 4-step process.
Step 1 – You must be registered on the FFH website and have received your photoshelter account details to be able to complete your submission.
Step 2 – Check your eligibility criteria. Your application will be invalid if you do not meet the eligibility criteria. These are detailed on the neighboring tab, eligibility.
Step 3 – The photographer must upload 8-10 JPEG images as a supporting portfolio. Image files sized to longest dimension at 3000 pixels, 300 dpi, saved as JPEGs with standard compression no lower than 8 on the JPEG scale. Image files should be numbered and named in the order in which the applicant would like the images to be viewed. When uploading into the FFH Photoshelter account you will be asked to enter the name of the grant (eg Fellowship). The software will then create a dedicated folder including your name and the date of your upload under the grant name.
Step 4 – The online application form covers all the mandatory information. In addition there is an option to submit a supplementary document which can be uploaded via the form, and must be submitted with the following filename format: Grantname-photographername.doc eg fellowship-marcoryan.doc. A Pdf document or Apple version of Word (.docx) are also acceptable formats. This supplementary document should be no more than one side of A4 paper and can be used to expand or amplify why you should be chosen, what project you might undertake or what unique angles or aspect you would wish to bring to the panel’s consideration.
