Applications are invited for a 3-year Postdoctoral Fellowship, funded by the Health Research Board Ireland, which will commence before January 2010.

The project will investigate the roles of CNS-expressed S1P1 receptors in the development of Multiple Sclerosis MS). Lentiviral and shRNA gene therapy will be used to express and knockdown this receptor subtype in an inducible and cell type specific manner. The effects of S1P1 expression or knockdown on the development of MS will be determined using an in vivo model of experimental autoimmune encephalomyelitis (EAE).

This project will be supervised by Professor Kumlesh K. Dev (Department of Physiology, Institute of Neuroscience, Trinity College Dublin, Ireland).

This is a highly competitive programme. Applications are welcome from motivated candidates who possess a PhD in Neuroscience, Biochemistry, Genetics or Immunology. Candidates MUST hold expertise in conducting in vivo biology experiments and preferably in EAE.

Experience in molecular, biochemical and cellular laboratory procedures would be advantageous.

To apply send, to Prof. Kumlesh K. Dev via email:
- a copy of your CV
- indication of your contribution to each publication listed in CV
- cover letter describing your interest in this position
- clear statements regarding your competence
- letters of support from 2 academic referees (sent separately by email)

Closing date: October 31st 2009
