Ireland: PhD Position in Novel Optical Imaging Methods

A PhD stipend is currently available on novel optical imaging methods for nanoscale and adaptive light scattering analysis for biomedical applications. There will be extensive collaboration within our research group on ultrafast laser microscopy and adaptive optics, and related possibilities with clinical, and industry partners. A background in optical physics or similar will be beneficial but is not a requirement. The scholarship is approximately 18,000 euros/year and fees are fully funded (EU applicants). Candidates should have or expect to receive a 1st or upper 2nd class honours degree (or equivalent). Expected start date of the project is September or October 2010.

The Advanced Optical Imaging group (www.ucd.ie/advancedopticalimaging) is a young group that forms part of the NanoBio Science thematic area at University College Dublin (www.ucd.ie/nanobio).

Dublin is an attractive vibrant city located near the sea and backed by the wild Irish nature. It is known for its authors (Oscar Wilde, James Joyce), rock bands (U2, Sinead O’Connor), Guinness, and modern Irish and Ethnic cuisine. It is also conveniently
connected through Dublin Airport that offers numerous low-cost international flights.
