UK; CASE Award PhD Studentship
Understanding the effects of dynamic shock loadings in causing leakage and water quality failures in water distribution systems
A 3 year PhD CASE studentship is available within the Pennine Water Group, Department of Civil and Structural Engineering at the University of Sheffield in partnership with Yorkshire Water Services. The tax free studentship will initially be £12,923 (rising annually in line with the UK Government recommended rate) plus CASE top up award of £3000 per year.
The project will involve fieldwork, hydraulic modelling and data analysis to investigate the association between hydraulic transient events, leakage and water quality failures in potable water distribution systems.
The studentship is available to UK candidates only due to funding restrictions with the equivalent of a first class or upper second class degree in relevant numerate discipline, ideally engineering, but also mathematics, computer sciences or physical geography. Skills in field/experimental work, data analysis and hydraulic network modelling are desirable as is previous experience of water engineering.
Further information about the studentship can be found at www.shef.ac.uk/civil/pgr/funding/case.html. To apply email a Curriculum Vitae and personal statement indicating why you wish to study this PhD to Dr Joby Boxall
(J.B.Boxall@shef.ac.uk). Further information about the research group can be found at www.sheffield.ac.uk/pwg.
