PhD Studentship

Monte Carlo Simulation of Ge MOSFETs

Department of Electronics and Electrical Engineering

Applications are invited from UK, EU and International students with a
first class or upper second-class degree in electronics and electrical
engineering, physics, or related subject to undertake a PhD studentship
the joint supervision of Dr. Jeremy Watling and Prof. Asen Asenov. The
Device Modelling Group is one of the world leaders in the simulation of
advanced semiconductor devices and has strong links and collaborations
with the semiconductor.

The studentship is funded by the EPSRC grant, ‘Renaissance Germanium’ in
collaboration with the Universities of Sheffield and Warwick and IMEC,
the leading European microelectronics research institute, in Brussels,
Belgium.

Germanium has attracted recently strong interest as a potential
candidate for replacement of silicon in future generations high
performance CMOS applications. The focus of the PhD will be the study of
the influences of bandstructure, strain, confinement and the high-k gate
stack on the electronic transport in Ge channel transistors using Monte
Carlo transport simulations.

For further information please contact Dr Jeremy Watling
(j.watling@elec.gla.ac.uk) or Prof Asenov (a.asenov@elec.gla.ac.uk).
Full details of how to apply (including CV, written references and
academic transcripts), can be found at:
http://www.gla.ac.uk/faculties/engineering/gradschool/.

Closing Date: 30th May 2008.
