Job description
Function title: PhD position Metabolomic Systems Biology
- to develop and evaluate novel computational and machine learning tools, which reveal the metabolic identity and connectivity from large-scale molecular mass data at ultra-high resolution with sub-parts per million mass accuracy, in order to advance metabolic modeling in an integrated systems biology strategy
- to develop optimal experimental designs for the study of metabolic systems, including metabolic pathway reconstruction and analysis.
Requirements
Required education/skills:University Graduate
Candidates should have a strong background in bioinformatics, biochemistry, chemometrics, biostatistics, bioengineering and/or molecular systems biology. A proven ability of performing creative interdisciplinary research is required for the postdoctoral position and would be a plus for the PhD position. We also expect a pro-active attitude and the ability to initiate and execute research lines independently. Excellent communication and reporting skills are necessary. Additional conditions of employment:
The University of Groningen offers a salary of € 2000 gross per month in the first year up to a maximum of € 2558 gross per month in the fourth year. Objective of the temporary four years position is a number of research articles in peer-reviewed scientific journals, together comprising the PhD thesis leading to the granting of the PhD degree (dr.) at the University of Groningen. After the first year there is an evaluation for feasibility of successful completion of the PhD thesis within the next three years. This position is available from October 2008. You will be member of a multidisciplinary project team of senior scientists, postdocs and PhD students and you will have access to state-of-the-art facilities and equipment.
