DENMARK; Postdoc / Assistant Professor – Power Plant and Power System Control and Operation
The position is available from 01.10.2008-30.04.2010.
Research areas will be within Power System Control. The impact of substantial amounts of wind power on utility control area operations planning and scheduling, determining ancillary services requirements (regulation, load following, reserves) for wind plants, quantifying the value of next-hour and next-day wind forecasting from a control area operations perspective should be assessed. In particular the specific mix of wind and hydro/gas/coal for representative transmission system configurations should be described.
The interaction of wind power plant (WPP) and power system is very important for wind power integration and the purpose of this program is first to survey and characterize the power system networks normal operation and ability to integrate wind power in different worldwide test cases and to evaluate different power system simulation tools. Then generic conventional power plants and WPP simulation models will be developed and finally real-time simulation will be considered. Control strategy in normal operation, stability issue and protection constraints will be considered as key parameters.
Key topics: state-of-the-art in power system modeling and simulation, benchmarking different off-line and real-time simulation tools, system planning, stability and protection. Some teaching activity will be required.
Requirements: Applicants for the PostDoc positions should posses a PhD degree in Electrical Engineering and should have a sound background in power systems simulation and control.
Limited teaching within the area can be expected, but also in other study programmes at the University.
