Australia: PhD Scholarship in International Business03.11.10

PhD Scholarship in International Business
Australian National University

Applications are invited for a full-time PhD scholarship in the School of Management, Marketing and International Business funded by a grant under the Linkage Scheme of the Australian Research Council.

The project aims to understand the factors that impacted on the investment decisions of European companies in Australia and of Australian companies in Europe through firm-level surveys. Some of those factors are the international experience of firms, their core competencies, their asessment of opportunities and risk in the foreign business environment, as well as the ways in which they accommodated and mitigated elements of perceived risk through the choice of location, entry mode, local partners etc.

The student involved in the project will develop skills in implementing and developing surveys and analysing the results of the surveys using both qualitative and quantitiative techniques.

The scholarship includes a tax-free stipend of A$26,140 per year for three years. Applicants are expected to have an honours or Masters degree or equivalent qualification in business studies, commerce or economics, or a cognate field of academic study. Both Australian residents and international students may apply.

Application deadline: Friday 19 March 2010.

UK: PhD Scholarship Sustainability and the Internationalisation of Law03.10.10

Scholarship no.: 544-0145

At the Centre for International Business Law (CIBL) at Department of Business Law at Aarhus School of Business, Aarhus University, 5 PhD scholarships will be available from July 1, 2010, or as soon as possible thereafter.

The overall research theme of the scholarships is sustainability and the internationalisation of law. Focus is on the initiatives of legal and quasi-legal character that have been launched within the area of sustainability with importance for the business community. This encompasses rules that influence the business community’s legal relations with investors, suppliers, other business associates and society in a broad sense. In addition to these matters being regulated on a national level, there is often a regulation on EU-level and from time to time also on UN, OECD and WTO levels. The fact that there are several regulators can mean that companies could be facing particularly encumbering and mutually conflicting demands. That is why it is very important to focus on the consequences of the internationalisation of law in the analysis of how to legally secure sustainability in the best way, and therefore this is expected to be a recurring theme in all PhD projects.
